It's a wish granted for Ai Ai delas Alas!
She prayed for it...very hard! Truly, prayers do make impossible possible. And now, after its 35 years of existence, the MMFF Best Actress award goes to a non-drama actress, and who else deserves that recognition, at least for this year, but Ai Ai delas Alas of Ang Tanging Ina Mo, Last Na 'To! MMFF Star Cinema movie entry.
Ai Ai was very vocal about wanting to win the title. She said she really wanted to be the first comedy actress to win such award (Dolphy, who is also this year's Best Actor, is the first comedian to win a MMFF Best Actor award for his 1990 entry Espadang Patpat).
Aside from the Best Actress award, the movie also won 8 other awards: Best Picture, Best Director for Wenn Deramas, Best Supporting Actress for Eugene Domingo, Best Screenplay, Best Story, Best Musical Score, Best Child Performer, Gender Sensitive Award.
