Kapuso star Aljur Abrenica chose to celebrate his 21st birthday recently with less fortunate kids.
The "Machete" star decided to celebrate his special day with some orphaned children, reaching out to them by way of a feeding program. Thus, instead of a showbiz bash, he partied with angels in need at the Reception and Study Center for Children in Quezon City last March 29.
About 50 kids, two to six years old, spent that Tuesday afternoon with one of GMA Artist Center’s top attractions. Other Kapuso stars like Bella Padilla and Stef Prescott joined Aljur to the delight of the guests obviously starstruck by the presence of their idols.
The kids were not the oly ones who had a grand time as the "Starstruck IV" winner was very much overwhelmed with happiness. "I really enjoyed it!" he exclaimed.
The excitement of seeing a celebrity heartthrob made the moment unforgettable for the tots. The atmosphere was a wonderland, like a playground visited by a superhero, or in Aljur’s case, a wooden figure that came to life. One of the little boys brought the house down when he innocently quipped, "Ang gwapo ni Machete. Mas gwapo pa kay Aljur!"
No doubt Aljur has solidified his household-name status after doing the TV series "Machete." The iconic character created by Pablo Gomez was given life on the big screen by actors Gardo Versoza and Cesar Montano back in the ‘90s. Aljur’s TV take, however, refreshingly revived the people’s interest and introduced the hunk to a younger generation.
"Machete" is Aljur’s second solo project after starring in "Illumina" last year. Prior to that, he was "The Last Prince" opposite Kris Bernal. In previous years he played key roles for some of GMA-7’s hit series, including "Zaido: Pulis Pangkalawakan," "Dyesebel, "Boy Next Door" and "Luna Mystica."
For this highly achieving Kapampangan, it all started in 2006 when he joined the popular star-search "Starstruck" and won the "Ultimate Hunk" title. Last December, he was paired with Bianca King as he participated on the network’s Christmas reality show "Puso ng Pasko: Artista Challenge."
Back in 2007 the PMPC Star Awards for TV dubbed him as the Best New Male Television Personality. Two years later it was the turn of the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Awards to acknowledge him as the Most Promising Male Star of Movies and TV. Then recently he was cited at the 2011 Asia Model awards for his many achievements.
Apart from being an actor, ramp and commercial model, Aljur also sings and plays musical instruments, prompting GMA Records and Sony Music to release his self-titled album in 2010. Career-wise it seems there’s no way he can go out of tune.
