AGB Mega Manila TV Ratings (August 14-17): "Survivor Philippines Palau" Debuts at No. 5; "May Bukas Pa" Drops to 9th Place

"Survivor Philippines Palau" premiered last Monday night registering a strong 30.8% to finish 5th in Mega Manila primetime race. However, it failed to match the pilot episode of the 1st season last September 15, 2008 which scored 31.8%.

While GMA-7 started to regain its primetime supremacy, ABS-CBN's lead primetime program "May Bukas Pa" dropped to 6th place last Friday and dropped even lower to 9th place last Monday.

"Darna" Pilot Episode Flies High in the TNS Mega Manila and Nationwide TV Ratings - August 10, 2009

Darna flies high and even topped the ABS-CBN dominated TNS Mega Manila survey on its pilot episode with a 47.6% ratings, and even placing 2nd in the TNS National survey with a 37.5% ratings - a .1% difference with May Bukas Pa's 37.6% ratings.

Darna Music Video and Main Cast Members

The legendary Mars Ravelo creation, Darna, will soar once again on primetime television with Marian Rivera assuming the lead role of the high-flying heroine. This GMA-7 primetime fantaserye will air starting August 10, 2009.

Main Cast Members and Super Villains:

Donning the red and gold two-piece ensemble in the latest reincarnation of Mars Ravelo's Darna is GMA-7's "Primetime Queen" Marian Rivera.

Marian Rivera is candidly described by some critics as the "Sexiest Darna." But more than anything else, the pretty Fil-Spanish actress said she's flattered simply by the fact that she's now included in the elite list of thespians who donned the Darna costume.

Playing Narda's love interest is Mark Anthony Fernandez. The son of the late action star Rudy "Daboy" Fernandez will take on the role Eduardo, Narda's childhood sweetheart.

The legend of Darna would not be complete without her kid sidekick, Ding. Robert "Buboy" Villar will give life to Ding's character.

Portraying the role of Darna's chief nemesis, Valentina, is Star Struck alumna Iwa Moto.

Fully aware of her new role's significance in the Darna saga, Iwa Moto said, "Kasi walang Darna kung walang Valentina. It's like my biggest, biggest, biggest role!"

Sexy actress Ehra Madrigal assumes the role of Babaeng Lawin. Ehra's character was described in the Darna publicity kit as: "May kakayahang utusan ang mga ibon at nagtataglay ng nakabibinging huni."

Francine's villain character is curiously named as Babaeng Tuod.

"Excited ako kasi ngayon lang ulit ako bumalik na naka-costume na naman ulit and every time na may gagawin ako na naka-costume sobrang excited ako."

Paolo Contis will portray the villain role of Kobra—the half-human, half-snake creature and the most ferocious enemy of Darna.

Nadine Samonte's Babaeng Impakta role completes the roster of Darna's evil enemies in this year's installment.

The villain role of Babaeng Linta is played by model and MTV VJ Maggie Wilson.

Marian Rivera is GMA-7's New Darna

Its official! GMA-7 finally announced the TV comeback of Darna - the Pinay Superhero made in comics by famous Pinoy author Mars Ravelo.

And who best fit to play the new Darna? Marian Rivera.

Yes, Marian Rivera will play the new Darna. And these announcement was made by GMA-7 SVP for Entertainment Wilma Galvante this afternoon,April 23, at the 7th floor of GMA Network Center.

The announcement was witnessed by Marian itself, GMA Films President Ms. Annette Gozon-Abrogar; Ms. Lilybeth Rasonable and Ms. Marivin Arayata of GMA-7 and Mars Ravelo's son and daughter Zaldy and Ruby Austria.

Marian Rivera was surprised and delighted by the news, "Hindi ko ito alam. Akala ko may pag-uusapan lang na new project. Yun pala, may surprise sila sa akin. Maraming salamat sa GMA-7 at patuloy ang tiwala nila sa akin."

But contrary to their previous press released, Captain Barbell will no longer be part of these new fantaseries on a major role but only as a guest character.

In 2005, GMA-7 first brought Darna to Philippine television and became the launching project of former Kapuso star Angel Locsin in full stardom. Now that Angel is a major artist of Kapamilya network, GMA management unanimously decided to award the role to their current prized possesion - Marian Rivera.

No announcement yet on who will play as Darna's young brother Ding and the Pinay superhero's love interest in her TV comeback.
