Manny Pacquiao Returns to ABS-CBN

Filipino boxing hero Manny 'Pacman' Pacquiao renewed his ties with ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp., which will air his next matches including his highly-anticipated superfight with British superstar Ricky Hatton on May 2.

"Pagkatapos kong pag-isipang mabuti nilapitan ko ang ABS-CBN. Napagpasyahan ko pong makipag partner muli sa kanila,” Pacquiao, the reigning pound-for-pound king, said via ABS-CBN's TV Patrol.

"Sarili ko po itong desisyon," he added. "Sa ABS-CBN mapapanood nyo ang laban ko kay Ricky Hatton at ang mga susunod ko pa pong mga laban."

Pacquiao and ABS-CBN have collaborated in some of his fights, including the one against Mexican Oscar Larios in July 2006. The broadcasting network also aired his matches to Filipinos overseas through ABS-CBN's The Filipino Channel.

"Wala pong pagbabago. Ang laban ko rin po ay laban po nating lahat mga Pilipino, kahit saan mang sulok ng mundo."

Pacquiao also appealed for support from his fans especially in his upcoming fight against Hatton, who is considered as his toughest match to date.

"Sana po, lagi nyo po akong ipagdasal sa mga darating ko pang laban, lalung lalo na this coming May second," said the Filipino champ, who also thanked his former network GMA-7 by saying, "Nagpapasalamat ako sa aking mga dating media partner."

ABS-CBN welcomed the return of Pacquiao even as it assured its support for his campaign against Hatton.

"We are very happy with the decision of Manny Pacquiao to be his partner in future fights, including the Pacquiao-Hatton fight on May 2. As his former media partner, we shall support Manny's campaign to bring honor to the Philippines and to his kababayans here and around the world," said Bong Osorio, ABS-CBN Head of Corporate Communications, in a statement.

"To Manny, we say, 'Welcome home, Kapamilya'," he added.

Osorio said that Pacquiao has signed a letter of intent with ABS-CBN which will cover the Hatton match and possibly three or more fights thereafter.

On questions about Pacquiao's contract with Solar Sports Entertainment, Osorio said the boxer will later answer queries to explain his decision.

Meanwhile, Pacquiao has reportedly long been wanting to return to ABS-CBN according to actress and talk show host Kris Aquino.

Aquino said in her program Showbiz News Ngayon that she greeted Pacquiao's wife Jinkee through text messaging after receiving news that the boxer has reopened his partnership with the network.

"Katext ko kanina si Mareng Jinkee Pacquiao at sinabi kong 'welcome back, balik Kapamilya ulit kayo'," said Aquino.

The talk show host said Jinkee replied back with: "Alam mo mare, matagal na talagang gusto ni Manny magbalik sa ABS-CBN at siya talaga ang may gusto at gumawa ng paraan para maging Kapamilyang muli."

JC de Vera Soon To Be a Kapamilya?

In the past few years, JC de Vera has established himself as one of the most promising new talents in a series of TV dramas on GMA -7 which has discovered and groomed him. He showed his versatility in the four-episode Obra in which he played four different, challenging roles and easily acquitted himself.

His last soap was Lalola as the leading man of Rhian Ramos.

His contract with GMA is expiring on March but no news yet on what will be his next project.

According to Philstar's Funfare, JC is turning Kapamilya soon. Heard that his first assignment with ABS-CBN will be a soap with Judy Ann Santos, to be followed by another one with Shaina Magdayao.

"I have no idea sa plano ni Tita Annabelle dahil sa March pa mag-i-end ang contract ko sa GMA-7. Personally, ayokong lumipat. Para sa akin, dito ako nakilala at ayokong hindi maging loyal sa GMA-7. Sila ang nag-buildup sa akin at ayokong ibang network ang makinabang sa pagbi-buildup sa akin.

Anuman ang maging desisyon ni Tita Annabelle, rerespetuhin ko. May work pa naman yata ako kahit ilipat ako." according to JC.

Annabelle Rama [his manager] still remained mum about the issue.

ABS-CBN TV Shows for February

A new late-morning program, a tele-thriller, a TV series, and a showbiz talk show will make the Kapamilya viewing habits extra-ordinary this February.

Their first offering, May Bukas Pa, is set to hit the primetime block starting February 2, with seven-year-old Zaijan Jaranilla portraying the role of Santino.

Initial reports announced that the project would be Marcelino, the local adaptation of the 1955 Spanish film, Marcelino Pan y Vino (Marcelino, Bread and Wine), also known as The Miracle of Santino. Apparently, ABS-CBN had a change of plans.

The young boy, who also played the young Tiny Tony, will be working with Dina Bonnevie, Albert Martinez, Maja Salvador, and Rayver Cruz, to name a few.

Second to the list is the morning tandem of a former beauty queen-actress-host Ruffa Gutierrez and Comedy Queen Ai-Ai delas Alas in a show called Ruffa and Ai. Find out how the two women are going to mix katatawanan with kakikayan starting February 16.

Thirdly, the tandem of Kris Aquino and Boy Abunda will be moved to primetime block. With the witty and weighty repartee of the king and queen of talk, the nights of Channel 2 viewers are bound to be livelier. SNN: Showbiz News Ngayon will have its first round of tittle-tattle on February 16.

For the fourth show, which will have its pilot episode on February 23, Maricel Soriano will give us the heart-thumping remake of Florinda, the third and last installment of Sineserye Presents: The Susan Roces Collection. The cast includes Roxanne Guinoo, Jay Manalo, Zanjoe Marudo, Cherry Pie Picache, William Martinez, and Nikki Gil.

Expect this latest offering of ABS-CBN to wreak havoc in the ratings game. New formats, new faces, and a big comeback are all poised and ready to make noise on the TV landscape.

TJ Trinidad is Now a Kapuso Star

Kapamilya identified actor TJ Trinidad will be soon be a Kapuso. Although TJ Trinidad claims that he is not really an exclusive star of ABS-CBN, he expresses his gratitude to the management of ABS-CBN for giving him good projects where he made a name for himself - Basta’t Kasama Kita, Krystala, Gulong ng Palad, Da Adventures of Pedro Penduko, Hiram Na Mukha, Rounin, Walang Kapalit, and Prinsesa ng Banyera.

"I was never under contract with ABS, it’s per project also. Kaya medyo matagal ako na nagkatrabaho uli after Prinsesa ng Banyera, kasi we just had to make sure that everything was okay. Si Tita Annabelle ang nakipag-usap sa ABS-CBN, nag-meeting kami and all that.

It’s not like bigla na lang kaming lumipat nang walang abiso. Nagpaalam kami nang maayos. We prioritized ABS-CBN first. Ako, I owe it to the management of ABS. Kami naman, we don’t wanna burn bridges.

I don’t think it’s fair for people to speculate. I’ve proven my loyalty to ABS when I was there."

TJ Trinidad will soon be seen in Richard Gutierrez starrer 'Zorro' where he will play as Zorro’s nemesis.

He also change managers from June Rufino to Annabelle Rama.

On Thursday, Lorna together with her manager Lolit Solis, formally bids goodbye to GMA-7 big bosses as she finally accepted ABS-CBN's long-time offer.

Lorna is set to do a soap opera opposite Gabby Concepcion in the Kapamilya network.

"Ayaw ni LT na basta na lang siya gagawa sa kabila na hindi nagpapaalam," said Lolit. "Kaya nandito siya para siya mismo ang personal na magpasalamat at magpaalam. Ayaw naming mag-burn ng bridges, di ba?"

According to Lolit, GMA-7 offered Lorna a role in the TV remake of Saan Darating Ang Umaga with Yasmien Kurdi as the lead star. Lorna is supposed to play the role of Nida and Yasmien as Maricel Soriano. But Lorna declined the offer saying she already said "yes" to ABS-CBN prior to GMA-7's offer.
