Pokwang and Wowowee Executives Summoned by MTRCB

Pokwang and other Wowowee executives were summoned by MTRCB for violating the Philippine Flag law on the show's Independence day celebration. Pokwang wore a gloves with Philippine flag design as part of her costume while impersonating Mommy Dionisia (Manny Pacquiao’s mother). The incident immediately drew criticisms from many viewers, prompting Pokwang to publicly apologize on the same day.

In a letter dated June 15 and addressed to the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) head Ma. Consoliza Laguardia, Pokwang said it was not deliberate on her part to wear boxing gloves with Philippine flag as their design.

"Since I was told that similar merchandise containing the flag was being openly sold to the public in time for Independence Day, I had mistakenly believed that it was fitting to use the gloves for our June 12 episode," Pokwang explained in her letter.

"If there was anything improper in my having used the gloves, it was not deliberate on my part and I sincerely apologize for my error," she added.

Pokwang also promised not to commit the same mistake.

And in response to the invitation made by MTRCB, Pokwang, along with Wowowee’s executive producer Phoebe Anievas and Tonette, showed up at the MTRCB office to personally apologize to Laguardia. Tonette was the one who bought the gloves in Divisoria.

"Pumunta naman sila dito [MTRCB office] at ina-admit nila ang pagkakamali nila. So, I guess naging leksyon din yon sa kanila at hindi na nila ‘yon uulitin," Laguardia said.

"The Buzz" To Make A Public Apology

The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) conducted an adjudication hearing on Wednesday on the complaint filed by former actress Nadia Montenegro against Cristy Fermin, host of “The Buzz,” who was recently suspended by ABS-CBN.

The network and the board agreed that “Buzz” main host Boy Abunda will make a public apology on the Sunday afternoon talk show for the “uncontrollable behavior” of Fermin during an interview on Oct. 5 regarding her feud with Montenegro.

ABS-CBN was represented in Wednesday’s closed-door hearing by business unit head Louie Andrada and executive producer Nancy Yabut, the network’s legal director Mona Lisa Manalo and assistant liaison for the MTRCB Daisy Parungao. The board was represented by vice-chair Marc Castrodes and members Noel del Prado and Cristine Concordia.

After the hearing, the network representatives, committed to pre-tape segments that tackle sensitive issues, for self-regulation.

The network also promised to publish a public apology in a major daily, “on a best-efforts basis,” said board chair Marissa Laguardia.
